therefore是副词还是连词

二是用于句首。如：　　

Therefore, we must advocate the forming of workshop committees. 因此我们倡导组织车间委员会。（摘自张道真语法）　　

下面这个句子摘自《牛津英语语法》，它表明therefore可以放在句中的不同位置：　　

The Finnish delegate has not yet arrived. We are therefore postponing / We have therefore decided to postpone / Therefore we are postponing the meeting. 芬兰代表还没有到达。我们因此要把会议推迟 / 因此我们已决定把会议推迟 / 因此我们要把会议推迟。 　　

三是用于连接两个句子，此时与并列连词的用法极为相似。如：　　

It rained; therefore the game was cancelled. 天下雨了，为此球赛取消了。（摘自张道真语法）　　

There seemed no chance of coming to an agreement; therefore it was decided to break off negotiations. 似乎已没有达成协议的可能，因此决定中止谈判。（摘自薄冰语法）　　

注意therefore前面用的是分号，通常不宜用逗号，否则就构成了所谓的逗号句。尽管在现代英语中“逗号句”已慢慢为人们所接受，但还是有不少严谨的语法学家对此持反对态度（有关“逗号句”的说明，见本站以下文章：www.hxen.net/Article/201311/3526.html）　　

请看下面两句，摘自《牛津英语语法》（注意句中的标点）：　　

He took my shoes, so I couldn’t leave the house. 他把鞋拿走了，我出不了门。　　

=He took my shoes; therefore I wasn’t able to leave. 他把我的鞋拿走了，所以我不能够出门。　　

最后还说明一点，当therefore连接两个句子时，它还常可以与并列连词and连用，而其他的两个并列连词是不可以连在一起使用的。如：　　

We were unable to get funding and therefore had to abandon the project. 我们无法筹到资金，因此不得不放弃计划。（摘自剑桥词典）　　

Muscle cells need lots of fuel and therefore burn lots of calories. 肌肉细胞需要很多能量，所以会燃烧大量卡路里。（摘自柯林斯词典）　　

The new boots are lighter and softer, and therefore more comfortable to wear. 新靴子更轻更软，因此穿起来也更舒服。（摘自麦克米兰词典）
