fight用法小议

1. 用作动词，表示“与……斗争（或战斗）”，以下3类表达大致同义：

士兵们勇敢地同敌人作战。

正：The soldiers fought the enemy bravely.

正：The soldiers fought with the enemy bravely.

正：The soldiers fought against the enemy bravely.

用于此义时，fight with 与 fight against 大致同义，但用后者语气更强。但除此用法外，fight with 还有一些其他的用法，此时不能与 fight against 替换。如：

The children fought with snow-balls. 孩子们打雪战。

England fought with France against Germany in World War I. 英国在第一次世界大战与法国一起对德作战。

比较：England fought with [against] France. 英国与法国作战。

2. 表示“为……而奋斗、斗争或战斗等”，通常与介词 for 连用或与不定式连用。如：

If you want the job you’ll have to fight for it. 你若想得到这份工作，你就得去争取。

They were fighting for [to gain] their freedom. 他们（获得）自由而斗争。

有时接介词 about, over 表示“为……而争吵或相争”。如：

The two dogs fought for [over, about] a bone. 这两条狗为一根骨头争斗。

3. 用作名词时，其后所接介词与用作动词时情形相似。如：

You will have to fight against difficulties. 你得和困难斗争。

Two friends had a fight over money. 为了钱的事，两个朋友吵起来了。

The fight for his release gathers momentum each day. 争取使他获释的斗争日益加强。
