一、on the contrary 与 to the contrary 的用法

on the contrary与to the contrary 中的 contrary 为名词，其区别为：两者均可表示“相反”，但前者主要用于加强语气，用以强调说话者对前面所提出的情况完全不同意；而后者则仅指反面的情况。如：

It doesn’t seem ugly to me; on the contrary, I think it’s rather beautiful. 我觉得它并不丑，恰恰相反，它挺美。

I know nothing to the contrary. 我不知道任何相反的情况。

二、contrary to 的用法

contrary to 中的 contrary 为形容词，表示“与……相反”，注意此时后接介词to。如：

We must hear opinions contrary to ours. 我们必须听取相反的意见。

The rain was heavy, but, contrary to our fears, our fields were not flooded. 雨很大，但是和我们担心的情况相反，我们的田地没有受淹。
