bank, beach, coast, shore, seashore, seaside辨析

这几个词在意思有很大的相近之处，但它们却有差别，其主要区别如下：

1.bank 通常指“河岸”或“湖岸”等，一般不用来指“海岸”。如：

He climbed down the bank to pick flowers. 他爬下河堤去摘花。

The factory is on the south bank of the river. 这家工厂在河的南岸。

2. coast 指“海岸”、“海岸线”等，属地理用词，它主要指远处看到的海洋与陆地的分界线，或把这一分界线当作一个整体来看待(通常只能指“海岸”，不指湖岸或河岸)。如：

They lived about 20 miles from the coast. 他们住在离海大约 20 英里的地方。

3. beach 指“海岸”，主要指接近海水较为平坦的地方，通常指涨潮时有水，退潮时无水的部分，其上往往覆盖有沙子或碎石( 而不是泥土)，适合于游泳、日光浴或停靠小船等。如：

They spent their holidays at the beach. 他们在海滨度假。

The children were all playing on the beach. 孩子们都在海岸上玩。

4. shore 指水与陆地交界的“岸”(如：海岸、湖岸、河岸等)，是一个较为笼统的说法，既可以包括 beach，也可以指突兀或陡峭的岸边，它往往有较强烈的与“水”相对的意味。如：

We walked along the shore of the lake. 我们沿湖岸散步。

We were pleased to be on shore again. 很高兴我们又来到了岸上。

5. 当人们侧重把“海岸”或“海滨”作为游玩的地方来考虑时，就用 seashore 或 seaside。如：

They’ll spend the vacation at the seaside. 他们将到海滨度假(www.hxen.net)。

We’re taking the children to the seaside [seashore] on Saturday. 我们打算星期六带孩子们到海边去玩。
