Describe a wild animal you were once close to.
You should say:
What it is
Where you saw it
Who you were with
And explain how you felt about this experience
I once got fairly close to a tiger, actually. Well, not really close in the wild of course, but in a zoo. The tiger was in an enclosure and behind bars and a thick glass screen, but it came really close to the glass whilst I was looking at it, and even though the bars and glass were there, I was still really quite intimidated and frightened. Tigers are impressive, beautiful and very powerful and quite scary animals. I was at the zoo with my brother and my father and all of us stood completely still, like statues, as the tiger came confidently strolling up to the glass, bared its huge white teeth, then walked away. It gave me a feeling of great respect for the animal, and also made me think of those stories I’ve seen in the media of people who actually were brave and stupid enough to actually climb into tiger enclosures in zoos and wildlife parks. I recall a couple of stories from a few years ago when men actually did that, and got killed by the tigers. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to take that risk! We were terrified even though we were separated by quite a thick special glass and bars! I’m a huge fan of nature and the natural world and often watch wildlife documentaries so I know quite a bit about wild animals. I love the BBC documentaries by David Attenborough, and how he has such a great respect for nature and wildlife. I’d say I’ve learned quite a lot from watching his documentaries, actually. Some are focused on the sea, others about plants, others about birds, others about wild cats (like tigers, panthers, lions, leopards and so on) and others about more obscure creatures that we don’t know much about or hear much about. I think it’s good to teach children, too, about the natural world, and wild animals, and the importance of protecting species, especially vulnerable or endangered species.
