泰国总理英拉会晤缅甸民主领导人昂山素季
Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra met Tuesday with Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, in a visit described in Thai media as a show of support for political stability and "strong, sustainable democracy" in Burma. Thai television quotes a spokesman for Ms. Yingluck as saying the prime minister praised Aung San Suu Kyi's "strong push" to boost democratic institutions, and the decision by her National League for Democracy party to compete in upcoming Burmese elections.
The meeting took place in Rangoon, following a summit in Burma of six Mekong river nations seeking to boost regional cooperation in Southeast Asia. The Burmese Nobel laureate met earlier this month with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and separately with China's ambassador to Burma.
