2008 Water Polo China Open: Australia beats Guangdong Derun 18-5

(BEIJING, Mar. 19) -- In the opening game of the men's Group A preliminary round of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Water Polo China Open held on March 19 at Ying Tung Natatorium, Australia downed Guangdong Derun 18-5 with overwhelming superiority.

Australia created two goals during the first two minutes of the competition and another two goals in the next minute. When the first period ended, Australia led 6-0.

In the second period, Guangdong Derun's No.7, Zhang Chufeng, grabbed a chance in the fifth minute and made the first goal. In the last minute, Guangdong Derun's No. 9 Pan Ning made the second goal for his team before the period ended 11-2, with Australia leading.

In the third period, Australia scored five goals to lead 16-3.

Within the first three minutes of the last period, Australia scored two goals before slowing down. In the fourth minute, Guangdong Deren's No.3, Zhong Zhencai, made a goal, followed by a penalty shot from No.10 Wang Yang. As neither team scored in the remaining two minutes Australia won the match 18-5.
