Indonesia to announce Uber Cup team on April 10

JAKARTA, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Manager of the Indonesian Uber Cup national team Susi Susanti said the squad would be announced on April 10 after completing the selection.

"There will be a final selection to decide the team formation," Antara news agency on Sunday quoted Susi as saying.

Based on the result of the simulation in Batam of Ria province, she has got the nominated shuttlers for the fourth singles and third double, but refused to name them.

For the singles, they might be Aprilia, Maria Febi or Fransiska Ratnasari," she added.

The ongoing simulation here will help the coaches to decide the right shuttlers to take part in the Uber Cup.

It will be the 25th tournament of the Thomas Cup and 22nd tournament of the Uber Cup to be fielded by the men's and women's teams respectively in this year's badminton competition on May 11-18 in Batam, Indonesia.

Following are the group selection in the Asian qualifiers for the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup:

Thomas Cup:

Group A: Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Pakistan, Cambodia

Group B: Republic of Korea, Singapore, Vietnam

Group C: Japan, India, Philippine

Group D: Chinese Hong Kong, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Chinese Macao

Uber Cup:

Group W: Japan, Thailand, Cambodia

Group X: Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka

Group Y: Chinese Taipei, Chinese Hong Kong, Vietnam

Group Z: Malaysia, India

A total of 13 national men's teams and 11 national women's teams will take part in the tournament in an effort to grab finals spots.

Considering China as a defending champion and host Indonesia have booked two spots, Malaysian men's teams will become the top seed in the men's competition, while the Japanese women's team will be the top seed in the women's competition.

The Thomas Cup is an international badminton competition contested by the men's national badminton teams of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) member countries, the sport's global governing body.

The Uber Cup, sometimes called as the World Team Championships for Women, is a major international badminton competition contested by women's national badminton teams of the BWF member countries.
