Two out of three to Beijing

2008-05-30来源:
(BEIJING, May 29) -- Three Malaysian badminton pairs who hold the world's top rankings will compete for only two tickets to Beijing for the Olympics.

The three pairs are world No. 4 Choon Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah, world No.5 Koo Kien Keat/ Tan Boon Heong and top rated Zakry Latif/Fairuzizuan Tazari.

Although the teams are highly-qualified, because the IOC has only allocated two positions to Malaysia, one of the three pairs will not be able to compete in Beijing.

Choon Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah are ranked best amongst the three, but national doubles coach Rexy Mainaky favors Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, according to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

All three pairs were subject to medical testing on Tuesday and Lee Wan Wah was given a clean bill of health, shaking off concerns regarding his shoulder injury, which previously narrowed down his chances of being selected.

BAM will report the name list to the Badminton World Federation, the governing body of the sport, on Friday.
