The Bird's Nest is the centerpiece of the Olympics avant-garde architecture Photo Gallery>>(BEIJING, July 16) -- Who is the fastest man worldwide in the men's 100-meter dash? That question will be answered at the Beijing Olympic Games this summer.

The men's 100-meter competition, which unveils the globe's "Superman of Speed" and is an extremely exciting event to watch, is scheduled for August 16 at the "Bird's Nest" National Stadium. The stadium is the centerpiece of avant-garde architecture that will surround the planet's premier athletes when they join the Beijing Olympiad.

In the 100-meter race in Beijing, Asafa Powell of Jamaica and Tyson Gay of the USA will be joined by Jamaican talent Usain Bolt in challenging the upper limits of human speed.

Powell set a new world record at 9.74 seconds in a Grand Prix meet in Rieti, Italy in September of last year. Yet Bolt lowered his record to 9.72 seconds at the Reebok Grand Prix meet in New York this May.

Tyson Gay, the 2007 world champion, clocked an uNPResedented 9.68 seconds at the US Olympic trials on strong tailwind in June.

Other superb athletes who will be participating in this event at the Beijing Olympics are Olusoji Fasuba of Nigeria, whose best time is 9.85 seconds; European 100-meter champion Francis Obikwelu of Portugal, who was the silver medalist at the Athens 2004 Olympics; and Derrick Atkins of the Bahamas, who was the runner-up at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka.

It is safe to say that the meeting of the world's superstars of super-speed in the 100-meter event at the Beijing Olympics will be a matchless thrill.
