Unit 9. Education.
Unit 9. Part 1. School.
Dialogue 1.
W: What grade is your son in now?
M: He skipped ahead one grade and now is in the sixth grade.W: Does he like to go to school?M: Not now. I had a talk with his teacher at the PTA meeting and found out that he is tired and sick of study.W: Why?M: He felt he is under great pressure. He would rather stay seated in the classroom for the break than go out to play with his classmates.W: Frankly speaking I think you and your wife have been short sighted. You can’t see the woods for the trees.Dialogue 2.W: How come you make out so well in your classes?M: Who? Me? You are kidding. I fool around too.W: Come on, Bill. Confess.M: I don’t know. I just listen carefully to what the teacher says, do my homework, and study hard, and so I guess that’s all I have to do.W: Maybe you are right, Bill. I know you always pay attention in class whenever I see you.Dialogue 3.W: Hi, old buddy. How was your last test?M: I made very poor grades.W: Did the teacher say anything on the report card?M: Yes, she said something about me being truant from school for 2 days, coming late, cutting class, and being bored.W: Poor attendance and your trial does not behave in class. If it continues the parents are expected to co-operate to solve this problem. Is that what he said on the report card?M: Exactly. How did you know? Did you get the same?W: Yes, disgusting. My parents received the same letter. They are angry about it.
