Teenage girls are finding it tough growing up in Britain and are more likely to suffer with bad health compared with boys the same age, according to new research.

Evidence shows girls are more likely to skip meals in a bid to try and lose weight and often smoke and drink more alcohol than boys.

The problem appears to be worse for young girls from lower economic backgrounds.

The research was carried out by thinktank Demos and is due to be published in full on Good Friday.
