A local leader in Hefei, in Anhui province, recently bought an 80-square-meter house in the hope of boosting the sluggish property market.
Meanwhile, the city planning head is calling for local residents to purchase houses as a way of "showing patriotism."
This awkward connection between patriotism and home-buying was the subject of an article from Xinhua news agency, which said if housing prices don't drop to a reasonable level, no consumer will rush to buy them just for the sake of patriotism.(www.hXen.com)
The article went on to say this is not the first case of associating property purchases with patriotism.
The article says it is not enough for developers to simply covet the money in the pockets of would-be buyers. The market is also necessarily influenced by supply, namely whether houses are of good quality and reasonably priced.
