CRI听力:U.S. Says N. Korea Releases American Citizen
One of three Americans who have been detained by North Korea is on his way home.
56-year old Jeffrey Fowle has been released and has been picked up by a plane chartered by the Pentagon.
Fowle was detained in early May for trying to leave a bible in his hotel room.
State Department spokesperson Marie Harf said it welcomed Fowle's release but continued to press North Korea to release two other U.S. citizens as well
"While this is a positive decision, we remain focused on the continued detention of Kenneth Bae and Matthew Miller and again call on the DPRK to immediately release them."
Bae, a Korean-American missionary, is serving a multi-year sentence for trying to subvert the North Korean government.
24-year old Miller is being held after allegedly tearing up his tourist visa and attempting to defect to North Korea.
Jeffrey Fowle's release from detention in North Korea has been secured, in part, through the help of the Swedish embassy, which represents the United States in issues connected with North Korea.
The United States has no diplomatic ties with North Korea.
