CRI听力:Israel to Demolish Homes of Palestinian Attackers

2014-11-20来源:CRI

It is being reported that the confrontation has so far prevented the Israeli troops from demolishing the homes of the two attackers.

Police officers have detained several members of the attacker's family.

The two Palestinian cousins, armed with a gun and meat cleavers, killed four rabbis in West Jerusalem before being shot dead.

A police officer died of his wounds hours after the attack.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denounced the attack as a Palestinian 'incitement' against Israel.

"We will uphold law, order and security throughout the streets of Jerusalem. I have decided to dismantle the homes of the terrorists and to enforce law, to make punishments more severe, and to outlaw certain organizations."

Meanwhile, Abed Abu Jamal, the father of one of the attackers, says Israel's actions in Jerusalem angered his son, like many other young Palestinians.

"Of course, everybody sees that they're preventing people from praying in the mosque, including women. When the youths see this, they react."

The hilltop compound, in Jerusalem's Old City, has been at the heart of the tensions.

It is revered by Jews as the site of the ancient Hebrew temples.

For Muslims, it is the Noble Sanctuary, home to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Under a longstanding arrangement, Jews are permitted to visit but not to pray.

But the number of visits by Jewish worshippers has grown, with many seeking the right to pray there.

It has drawn Muslim accusations that Israel is secretly trying to take over the site and sparked clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police.

In the wake of the attack, over 35 Palestinians have been wounded as violence flared in Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank.

Hamas has called for more revenge attacks, saying Tuesday's incident is in response to the death of a Palestinian bus driver found hanged in his vehicle earlier this week.

Meanwhile, U.S President Barack Obama has urged both Palestinians and Israelis to work together to lower tensions.

"The United States wants to work with all parties involved to make that a reality and to isolate the kinds of extremists that are bringing about this terrible carnage."

In an attempt to defuse tensions, Palestinian President Mahmound Abbas has issued a statement condemning the killing of civilians on all sides.
