It's been another night of upheaval in British politics — with parliament voting to block a no deal Brexit, and the prime minister calling for a snap election. The House of Commons has voted in favour of the bill to delay Brexit by 327 votes to 299, in another defeat for prime minister Boris Johnson. He's immediately moved to dissolve parliament and go to an election, but the motion must be supported by two-thirds of MPs. They're now voting on that bill.
Hong Kong's embattled leader, Carrie Lam, has withdrawn a controversial extradition bill which sparked months of anti-government protests. The bill would have allowed authorities to transport suspects from Hong Kong to mainland China to stand trial. Critics say it would have allowed for the prosecution of political dissidents. Withdrawing the bill has been one of five key demands of protesters, who are also calling for full democratic rights. Ms Lam says violence is not solution to Hong Kong's problems.
Police are investigating a massive house fire in Sydney's north. Fire fighters were called to the blaze at Hunter's Hill at around seven-thirty last night. Crews managed to put out the blaze which caused significant structural damage.
