The US president has confirmed the leader of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, has been killed in a raid by American special forces in north-western Syria. Donald Trump says the IS leader was chased into a dead-end tunnel where he blew himself up, killing three children. The 48-year-old oversaw the terrorist group that was responsible for gruesome attacks in the Middle East and around the globe. Mr Trump says al-Baghdadi died like a coward.
"A brutal killer, one who has caused so much hardship and death has violently been eliminated. He died like a dog. He died like a coward. The world is now a much safer place."

Victorian police officers have been given the go-ahead to shoot to kill under a new hostile vehicle attack policy released today. The stronger measures follow criticism over the handling of the Bourke Street rampage in 2017, where six people were killed. Members of the force will take other steps first to try and stop drivers who are risking lives, including ramming and roadblocks.
A West Australian mother charged with murdering her two young daughters will face court today. 10-year-old Mia and her six-year-old sister Tiana were found dead in the family home in a northern suburb of Perth on Friday. Their 38-year-old mother was treated for self-inflicted wounds before being charged with two counts of murder.
