A heatwave is continuing to sweep across Australia with temperatures in the south-east expected to reach the high 40s today. The mercury is likely to hit more than 45 degrees in parts of Victoria and South Australia. Total fire bans are in place for large parts of South Australia, Queensland and all of New South Wales.

The corporate watchdog is taking NAB to court alleging thousands of breaches of law. ASIC is seeking penalties through the Federal Court over the fees-for-no-service scandal which was aired at the Banking Royal Commission. NAB's chief executive Ross McEwan has told the investors at the company's AGM that the bank will work cooperatively with ASIC to deal with the issue.
Pope Francis has demolished a Vatican rule which forbade anyone who reported that they've been sexually abused from talking about it. The rule known as Pontifical Secrecy is also lifted for those who testified in a Vatican trial over clerical sexual abuse. The church leaders called for the rule's abolition in a Febuary Vatican summit.
Australia's digital spy agency has revealed the role it played in a top secret operation to hack into Islamic State online network. In 2016, the Australian Signals Directorate was part of the United States-led operation which infiltrated and destroyed the terror group's virtual network. It's understood there have been several more cyber attacks launched against the Islamic State since the operation.
