Fire crews are battling to deal with two huge bushfires about to join together to form a mega-blaze near the Victorian-New South Wales border. The Dunn's road fire, which tore through the towns of Batlow, Adelong and Tumbarumba is burning dangerously close to the Corryong fire, which has devastated towns in Victoria's north east. Light rain and smoke haze in the area has prevented authorities making an accurate assessment of the fire perimeter which made things even tougher. Late yesterday, police in New South Wales confirmed another person has died in bushfires on the state's south coast.
Hundreds of thousands of Iranians have flooded the streets of Tehran for the funeral of military commander Qasem Soleimani. The general was assassinated in a US drone strike in Iraq on Friday on the orders of president Donald Trump. Mourners chanted "death to America" as his coffin was carried over their heads. Iran has warned president Trump that Soleimani's death marks the end of America's presence in the Middle East.
And in breaking news, disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been charged with new sex offences just hours after he appeared in New York for the start of his rape trial. Los Angeles prosecutors claim the former Hollywood film producer raped one woman and sexually assaulted another in 2013. He's pleaded not guilty at his New York trial and says any sexual activity was consensual.
