Parts of Australia are waking up to eased social restrictions this morning, as state governments begin to react to the flattening of the curve. Western Australia is lifting the two person rule today, with indoor and outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people now allowed. And Queensland says some of its restrictions will be rolled back from Saturday. It comes as the federal government launches its new COVID tracing app. More than a million people downloaded it within the first four hours of its release last night, and while it's received the backing of health groups, and the Business Council of Australia, digital rights advocates are not convinced.
The truck driver accused of causing the Melbourne freeway crash that killed four police officers has been charged over the accident. The 47-year old will face court today on four counts of culpable driving causing death. The officers were hit last week while impounding a Porsche in the emergency lane of the Eastern Freeway.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases around the world is nearly three million. More than 205-thousand people have now died. The US, which now has almost one million cases, has begun to lift lockdown measures — despite recording its largest single day spike in cases on Friday. Meanwhile parts of western Europe appear to be getting on top of the pandemic with both Italy and Spain recording their lowest daily death toll in more than a month.
