Nine new local cases of coronavirus have been recorded in New South Wales from a record 60-thousand tests. Seven of the new infections have been linked to the Avalon outbreak, taking the cluster to 104. Two cases are under investigation, a CBD office worker and a Northern Beaches resident.
The father of Ciara Glennon has welcomed the sentence handed down to the Claremont killer. 52-year-old Bradley Robert Edwards was sentenced yesterday to a 40-year non-parole period for the murders of Jane Rimmer and Ciara Glennon in the 90s. Denis Glennon says he supports the judge's ruling and public sentiment is the Claremont killer should never be released from jail.
US president Donald Trump has issued a further 26 pardons inclusing former campaign manager Paul Manafort, and longtime adviser Roger Stone. Both were jailed as a result of the Mueller inquiry into Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election. Mr Trump has also pardoned Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared, who served a two year jail sentence for tax evasion, witness tampering and illegal campaign contributions.
Chinese swimmer Sun Yang has had his eight year doping ban overturned. The ban, which effectively ended the 29-year-old's career, was imposed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, after an appeal from the World Anti-Doping Authority. Today's decision comes after Sun's lawyers presented evidence that the Chairman of the panel which issued the ban made racist comments about China on social media.
