Health authorities across the country are facing a nervous wait with growing concerns the highly contagious UK variant of COVID-19 may have spread outside one of Queensland's quarantine hotels. More than 100 guests at Brisbane's Grand Chancellor Hotel are being moved out to spend another two week stint in quarantine. It comes as a number of cases in the cluster grows to six. New South Wales and Victoria have issued new requirements for hundreds of people who quarantined in the hotel.
Victoria has witnessed a horror day at its beaches with three people dying in separate incidents yesterday. A woman died while five others were taken to nearby hospitals after a group were swept into the sea at Bushrangers Bay on the Mornington Peninsula. Earlier, a man in his 80s died after being pulled unconscious from Port Phillip Bay at Tootgarook and a woman in her 20s died while trying to rescue a young girl at Venus Bay in Gippsland.
Thousands of members of the national guard are stationed inside the Capitol as the US Congress debates impeaching Donald Trump over last week's riot. Democrats and at least six Republicans want Mr Trump impeached accusing him of inciting a mob of his supporters to storm the Capitol building last week.
Two new cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in hotel quarantine in Darwin. The two people are part of a group of foreign military officials and their dependents who were quarantining in the hotel in the city's CBD.
