Authorities say the danger is far from over, with hundreds of miles of coastline in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina still under threat of torrential rain and deadly storm surges as the storm pushes north.

A helicopter apparently broke apart as it fell from the sky, then crashed and burst into flames in a Twin Cities suburb. The pilot and his passenger died at the crash.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says Russia and Syria should face a war crimes investigation for their attacks on Syrian civilians. Speaking alongside the visiting French Foreign Minister, Kerry said Syrian forces struck another hospital overnight, killing at least 20 and wounding 100.

Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos won the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end a civil war that killed more than 200,000 Colombians. The award came just days after Colombian voters narrowly rejected a peace deal that Santos helped bring about.
