Iraqi and Kurdish forces continued their advance on Tuesday to retake Mosul from the Islamic State group. Their operation in Iraq's second biggest city is being backed by the U.S.-led coalition.

Donald Trump says new FBI records revealed "a criminal act" that he says is worse than Watergate. FBI records show that a senior State Department official asked the FBI to help last year in reducing the classification on an email from Hillary Clinton's private server.

A typhoon made landfall in China on Tuesday as it continues toward Vietnam, where the death toll from flooding in the central part of the country triggered by heavy rains rose to 31. The typhoon was packing winds of 103 mph with gust of up to 124 mph.

And autumn snowstorm dusted higher elevations in California's Sierra Nevada with several inches of fresh powder. Authorities require drivers to use tire chains on some roads in the Donner Summit area.
