Travelers across the U.S. prepared for the delays in long lines ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. But Amtrak says it's adding trains and seats to meet the demand. The American Automobile Association predicts almost 49 million people are expected to travel 50 miles or more this Thanksgiving.

President-elect Donald Trump chose South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Haley is one of two women Trump has chosen for his cabinet. The other is prominent charter school advocate Betsy DeVos to lead the Department of Education.

Convoys of Iraqi soldiers were seen passing through the eastern outskirts of Mosul on Wednesday as the military operation to free the area from Islamic State group intensified. Meanwhile, residents continue to flee the fighting.

President Obama got the holiday mood started at the White House with the traditional pardoning of the national Thanksgiving turkey. The ceremony featured Iowa-raised turkeys named Tater and Tot. The president pardoned them both.
