Unexpected winter weather has hit Western states as emergency crews geared up for a more-snow-and-flooding Wednesday. An avalanche blocked a highway in Colorado, trapping three commercial trucks and sweeping down a tangle of trees and rocks in its path.

And researchers in China have identified a new species of gibbon in remote forest among the border of Burma and named it after a Star Wars character, Luke Skywalker. Scientists concluded they add a new species after studying the primate's distinctive brow and genetic analysis.
