New York is starting to test healthcare workers for coronavirus antibodies and will do the same next week with transit and law enforcement workers as the state eases away from the worst days of the pandemic. Governor Andrew Cuomo said Saturday that doctors, nurses and other employees at four New York City Hospitals that have handled high volumes of coronavirus patients will be the first tested under the new program.
Britain has become the fifth country in the world to report at least 20,000 deaths in the coronavirus pandemic. The U.K. government said the deaths of 813 more people with COVID-19 brought the number who have died in hospitals to 20,319, as of Saturday.
The World Health Organization said on Saturday there is no evidence that people who have recovered from COVID-19 are protected against reinfection. In a tweet, the WHO said: "there is currently no evidence that people who have recovered from COVID-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection."
As Portugal celebrated the 46th anniversary of what became known as the Red Carnations Revolution on Saturday, in Lisbon the streets remained quiet and almost empty due to the lockdown imposed to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
