More than 1.3 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week, a staggering figure that shows many employers are still laying people off as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The new layoffs come as spikes in new virus cases have forced six states to reverse their moves to reopen. Those states include: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Michigan and Texas.

The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled in favor of a Manhattan prosecutor seeking to obtain President Donald Trump's tax returns. But in a separate case, the court ruled against allowing congress to obtain access to Trump tax and financial records this time, ensuring all records will surely be kept out of the public eye at least until after the election.
Park Won-Soon, the longest-serving mayor of South Korea's capital and a fierce critic of inequality with his eye on the 2022 presidency, was found dead early Friday. His body was found in a wooded-hill area in northern Seoul after his daughter reported him missing. Police said there was no evidence of foul play.
