Millions of Americans filed for unemployment benefits for a seventeenth consecutive week, as layoffs in states like Georgia, Florida and California continue on the rise along with spikes in coronavirus cases. According to the U.S. Labor Department's numbers Thursday, 1.3 million workers sought jobless benefits last week for a total of 17.3 million nationwide since the pandemic began.

Spain paid tribute to the people it lost to the coronavirus, as well as the frontline workers who risked their lives during the worst of the pandemic. The King and Queen hosted relatives of some 100 victims, as well as essential workers, ambassadors and officials from a dozen religious organizations at a state ceremony at Madrid's Royal Palace Thursday.
Heavy flooding in northern Bangladesh is forcing villagers to leave their homes in search of higher ground. Floods and landslides from the heavy rainfall have killed at least 213 people across South Asia in the last month, and officials expect worsening conditions over the coming weeks.
And, take a look at these photographs of the sun snapped by a European and NASA spacecraft released Thursday. Scientist say these images taken by the solar orbiter, which launched from Cape Canaveral in February, are the closest pictures ever taken of the sun.
