The United States has expressed deep concern over air raids by Turkey on Kurdish fighters in Syria and Iraq. A State Department spokesman said the US-led coalition against the Islamic State group had not approved the strikes, which he said had caused the deaths of partners in the battle against IS. Turkey said some 70 Kurdish militants were killed in the raids.

The Turkish government has condemned the decision by European human rights body to monitor Turkey due to what it called serious concerns about respect for democracy there. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe said Turkey’s response to last year’s failed coup had been disproportionate.

President Trump is insisting that he still intends to build a wall along the US border with Mexico, though he’s indicated he’s prepared to wait before seeking federal funds to do it. Democrats say they’ll block his request for funding the project.

The UN secretary-general says a donor conference to tackle Yemen’s humanitarian crisis has been a remarkable success. He said the gathering in Geneva had secured pledges of more than a billion dollars.

President Hollande of France has warned of the danger of assuming that the right-wing presidential candidate Marie Le Pen will be beaten in next month’s election runoff. His remarks are seen as veiled criticism of the centrist Emmanuel Macron.

The world cocoa body has moved its headquarters to Ivory Coast from London, where it’s based for more than four decades. The International Cocoa Organization was due to relocate to the commercial capital Abidjan in 2002, but civil war prevented the move.

The last known male northern white rhino on Earth has joined the dating app Tinder. It’s part of a fundraising effort by conservationists who are trying to save the species. Efforts to mate the ageing animal with two surviving females have failed. They say they need $10m to develop an in vitro fertilization technique for the rhinos.
