The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched what's been described as the biggest tax reform since the country's independence 70 years ago. The changes standardize taxes on goods and services. The move is expected to create a single Indian market.
President Trump has said that years of strategic patience with North Korea have failed and are now over. At a joint press conference with the South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the White House, he said the manners of North Korea should be met with a determined response.
The New York Police Commissioner says a gunman who opened fire at a hospital in the city has killed himself. At least 6 people were wounded in the attack at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital. One is reported to have died. The gunman was a former employee.
A Brazilian Supreme Court judge has unexpectedly released a key figure in the bribery case against President Michel Temer from pre-trial detention. Prosecutors say Rodrigo Rocha Loures, a former aide to Mr. Temer, collected bribes from the country's biggest meat packing company. Mr. Rocha Loures denies the charges.
The International Organization for Migration says some 60 refugees are believed to have drowned off the coast of Libya. An IOM spokesman said they had learned the disaster from 80 survivors who were brought to safety in Italy.
The Russian security service, the FSB, says 2 of its border guards, who are detained by Ukrainian officials near the annexed territory of Crimea, had lost their way during a training exercise. The head of Ukraine's border guards said the men were taken into custody after their boat came ashore on the mainland. They had not been carrying any documentation.
And football stars and celebrities have gathered in the Argentine city of Rosario for the wedding of the Barcelona player Lionel Messi. He's marrying his childhood sweetheart Antonella Roccuzzo, with whom he has 2 children.
