The United States and South Korea has held a joint military drill in response to North Korea's first-ever test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile. A U.S. general said the two allies had so far chosen self-restraint, but that could change. The North Korean leader mockingly described the missile test as a gift to the Americans on their Independence Day.

The Saudi Foreign Minister and his counterparts from Egypt, the UAE and Bahrain are gathering in Cairo to discuss their dispute with Qatar. They broke all links with the Gulf emirate a month ago, accusing it of supporting terrorism. Qatar denies the allegation.

Two more airlines have announced that the cabin ban on laptops and other large electronic devices on flights to the United States has been lifted. Turkish Airlines and Emirates, which is based in Dubai, said the restrictions had been removed with immediate effect.

Countries investigating the downing of Malaysia’s Airlines flight MH17 over Ukraine three years ago have decided that prosecutions will take place in the Netherlands. A Dutch inquiry last year found that the aircraft had been hit by a Russian missile fired from rebel-held territory in Ukraine. Russia disputes this.

A fugitive Venezuelan policeman who attacked public buildings from a helicopter has issued a new anti-government message. In a video, Oscar Perez said he was still in Caracas. He urged Venezuelans to stand firm in their protests against President Maduro.

The Chinese-owned carmaker, Volvo, has announced that all new models launching after 2019 will be electric or hydrids. It's the first major car manufacturer to set a date for the new technology to be brought in across all its production lines.

And France has honored one of its most revered politicians, SimoneVeil, who died last week at the age of 89. At a ceremony in Paris, President Macron paid tribute to her invincible spirit.
