After his Liberal Democratic Party won more than 2/3 of the available seats, the Nikkei index of shares rose. It's now on its longest positive run in its 70-year history.

Argentina's governing coalition has made sweeping gains in mid-term congressional elections. It's a boost for President Macri's plans to reform the economy.

The Philippine Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana says the army has won its 5-month battle against jihadist fighters for control of the city of Marawi. The declaration comes nearly a week after President Duterte said Marawi had been liberated from rebels who supported the Islamic State group.

A three-day summit is opening in Senegal to discuss eliminating the practice of child marriage in West and Central Africa. Experts say that despite progress, the region still tops world rankings of child marriage.

Meanwhile, a special United Nations conference is taking place in Geneva to raise money to alleviate the situation of more than half a million Rohingya Muslims, who've recently fled Myanmar to Bangladesh.

Malaysia has asked Interpol to help track down a millionaire businessman Low Taek Jho, who's suspected of involvement in a scandal-ridden state investment fund, which is missing billions of dollars. The US Justice Department is ready seeking 1.7 billion dollars in assets which it says were bought with money taken from the fund.
