Iranian officials say more than 328 people are now known to have been killed by a powerful earthquake that struck just across the border in a mountainous region of Iraq. They say more than 2500 people have been injured. Buildings have come down and electricity supplies have been cut.

Scientists to the UN Climate Conference in Germany say global emissions of carbon dioxide are projected to rise in 2017 for the first time in 4 years. They say the main cause for the expected increase of about 2% has been a great use of coal in China. Some climate experts had thought the global CO2 emission might have peaked.

He was speaking after the two men met in Manila on the sidelines of the annual summit of southeastern Asian nations. A White House spokesman said the subject of human rights was raised by President Trump.
