Ahead of his meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Trump has said relations between the US and Russia have never been worse. Thanks, he said, to years of American foolishness and stupidity. The summit in the Finnish capital Helsinki is the first between the leaders of the two countries in the 8 years. On Friday, 12 Russian military intelligence officers were charged with interfering in the 2016 US presidential election.

The President of the European Council Donald Tusk has urged China, the United States and Russia not to start a trade war. Mr. Tusk warned the worsening global trade tensions could lead to violence, conflict and chaos which must be avoided.

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchi have written to their EU counterparts, formally rejecting an appeal to exempt European companies from new US sanctions against Iran. It’s yet another sign of a growing transatlantic rift.

Activists say at least 9 pro-government troops in Syria were killed in an airstrike on a military post near Aleppo. The British-based Syrian observatory for human rights said Iranian fighters were stationed at the base which came under attack.

The British Education Minister Justine Greening has called for a second referendum on Brexit. Mr. Greening, a prominent conservative says present plans drawn up in a white paper by the Prime Minister Theresa May do not satisfy either side: those who want Britain to stay in the European Union or those who want to leave.

A new report says more than a billion people are rescued from global warming because they lack air conditioning and means of refrigeration. Sustainable Energy for All, an uNPRofitable group, says people in countries like China, India, Pakistan and Brazil are most at risk. The report calls for developing air conditioning and refrigeration that the poor can afford.
