Hello, this is David Austin with the BBC news.
The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has warned that political will to tackle climate change is fading in spite of the evident effects of global warming. Here's our Asia Pacific editor Michael Bristow. Speaking on a visit to New Zealand, Mr. Guterres said it was crucial global temperatures did not rise by more than 1.5 degrees by the end of the century, but he said the world was not on track to achieve that goal. He said the paradox was that politicians were becoming less interested as things got worse. Mr. Guterres did, however, praise New Zealand, which a few days ago proposed cutting carbon emissions that cause climate change to zero by 2050. After New Zealand, the UN Secretary General will visit several Pacific island nations, some of the countries expected to be hit hardest by global warming.

The Iranian President has warned that the country is facing difficult times because of renewed US sanctions, but must not surrender to American pressure. Addressing a meeting of political activists, Hassan Rouhani warned that Iran's economic troubles could be even greater than in the 1980s when it was subject to international sanctions during the war with Iraq. Here's Andy Beats. Iran's president is feeling the heat. The pressures by our enemies, he said, is a war uNPRecedented in the history of our Islamic revolution. During the war, we didn't have a problem with our banks, oil sales or imports and exports, but I don't despair. I have great hope for the future provided when united. His rallying cry comes amid growing anger at a slump in the economy caused by sanctions and sustained pressure from Washington over the country's nuclear program.
