North Korea has mentioned a few times in state media releases over the last few weeks that it is angry at the idea that the United States and South Korea would take part in joint military exercises. These exercises, which Donald Trump has called 'war games' happen every year, every August. They've now been scaled back to stop antagonizing North Korea, but still North Korea sees them as a provocation. So it may well be that North Korea is saying, look, we do not want these exercises and we're holding some of our own.
