Hong Kong police are warning they may shoot live ammunition pro-democracy protestors if they continue to attack officers near the Polytechnic University. For hours, masked protestors have been throwing bricks and patrol bombs at police, who responded with tear gas and water cannon. Under a nearby bridge, a police vehicle was set fire and forced to retreat.

The winner of Sri Lanka's presidential election Gotabaya Rajapaksa has promised to be the leader of all Sri Lankans, regardless of race and religion. The former defense minister won just over 52% of the vote with his support concentrated in Sinhalese majority areas.

The army of Burkina Faso says it killed 32 armed terrorists during operations in the North. 24 were killed during several hours of fighting in the Yorsala forest during which a soldier also died. The military said it freed many women who were being kept as sex slaves.

Thousands of opposition protestors are picketing parliament in the Georgian capital Tbilisi, demanding the government's resignation and a snap election. Opposition parties formed united front last week, angered by the governing Georgian Dream Party voting down legislation to introduce proportional representation.

The former mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg says he is sorry for his strong backing of the Stop and Frisk tactic, used by the city's police that disproportionally affected black and Latino residents. He told a complication of largely Africa-American churchgoers that the policy was a mistake.

Venice in Italy has once again suffered serious flooding after another exceptionally high tide inundated the city. Three of the worst ten floods since records began there nearly a hundred years ago have now happened this week. The mayor of Venice has blamed it in part on climate change.
