The Islamic State group says it carried out Tuesday's attack on a military base in Niger, the deadliest since the Islamist militant violence began there in 2015. The government says more than 70 soldiers were killed in the assault near the border with Mali. Three days of national mourning have been declared.

In a high-risk operation, the New Zealand military have landed on White Island to retrieve eight unrecovered bodies of people killed when the volcano erupted on Monday. They said it's to be a 50-to-60 percent chance of another eruption over the next a few hours.

A deadly attack on a kosher grocery store in the United States on Monday is being treated as an act of domestic terrorism. New Jersey's attorney general say they are based on the evidence and interviews with witnesses, the two suspects hailed views reflecting hatred of Jewish people and law enforcement authorities. Six people died in the attack.

Myanmar's de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi has urged judges of the International Court of Justice to drop the genocide case against her country's military. She described the soldier's action as a counter-terrorism operation. Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslim fled a security crackdown in Myanmar two years ago.

Voting has ended in Alegria's presidential election which was boycotted by thousands of anti-government protesters. All five candidates standing had ties to past governments. The demonstrators want the entire ruling class swept away.

People across the Britain have been voting in the country's third general election in less than five years. Polls will close in a few hours, with the initial results expected before mid-night local time.

The Iraqi military says a suicide bomber has killed at least seven militiamen in a blast near the city of Samarra. The attackers used a car packed with explosives.
