Berlin has yet angrily to US moves to prevent the completion of a controversial gas pipeline between Russia and Germany. The German finance minister Olaf Scholz said American sanctions on the Nord stream 2 project were a serious interference in the internal affairs of Germany and Europe. President Trump says the pipeline could lead  Germany hostage to Russia.

Australia's prime minister Scott Morrison has arrived home after cutting short a holiday in Hawaii, to deal with his country's bushfire crisis. He is due to meet the fire chiefs in the coming hours. Mr.Morrison has been heavily criticized for leaving while the fires continue to rage. Saturday was one of the worst days and weeks of destruction.

The sea rescue organization SOS Mediterranean says it is waiting to be told where it can disembark more than 160 migrants, it picked up in two separate rescue operations off North Africa. The group search and rescue coordinated to told the BBC that in the first incident off Libya, more than 100 people were clinging to an uninflatable boat but it had collapsed.

Two Nigerian table tennis players who were detained in Bosnia after being accused of being illegal migrants have arrived back home. Abia Uchenna Alexandro and Eboh Kenneth Chinedu said they were happy to be free and safely back in Nigeria.
