英国发布夏季高温健康警报

2010-07-15来源:和谐英语

Beach resorts and city parks are likely to be packed this weekend as a heat wave affects much of Britain. A health alert has been issued for the elderly, babies and young children who are the most at risk from heat stroke as hot and humid air spreads across much of the country. Daytime temperatures could reach 31 degrees in some parts of the southeast. People are also being told to expect sticky nighttime temperatures for at least 20 Celsius.

The NHS says people should try and keep cool by wearing loose cotton clothes and drinking plenty of water. Motoring organizations meanwhile have warned drivers to give their vehicles a health check as the number of breakdowns is also likely to soar. Drivers are also being advised to carry drinking water, hats and sun cream in case they run into trouble. The RAC has warned that no animal should be left in a car even for a short period.

The heat wave won't affect everyone though, the northwest of England, west Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will be cooler, temperatures only reaching the high teens and low twenties. The highest temperature reach so far this year was 31 degrees which was recorded in Gravesend and Kent on June 27th.
