现在的时尚界在流行什么?

还记得以前翻出父母以前的老照片时，一家人会坐在一起笑当时的服装。现在可不是这样了，很多元素都开始重新回到了时尚界。现在到底在流行什么呢？

As a decade, the fashion trends of the 2000s for the most part seem pretty tame. You may like what you are wearing now, but chances are, in ten years, you will probably see at least one photo and ask, "What was I thinking?"

What are some of styles have emerged over the last decade? John Zhao from Beijing says that in China, fashion has changed a lot.

"Overall, people are paying more attention to fashion and to how they dress. When I say people, I say everyone. I think ten years ago, you would have to be middle class to talk about fashion. But nowadays, even the migrant workers, put some thought into how they dress, much better than before. But also, anther factor, a lot of fashionable clothes and design became available at a much cheaper price now than ten years ago. "

Pete Donaldson from London, England says he's noticed some trends from his childhood reappearing.

"In the last ten years, what I've noticed fashion wise, is definitely 80s revival. Even in China, you can see tons and tons of eighties influence fashion. Clothing like retro Nike's, zip-up hoodies, the colors and the style."

He may be right. And when in doubt, when it comes to fashion, trust the Italians.

Alessandra Pugliese from Naples, Italy says back home, big retro sunglasses are all the rage.

"Italians change sunglasses very often. We like to wear 80s sunglasses and seventies. I personally have like ten, I like to change them, you can change everyday who you want to be."

At least eighties hairstyles haven't come back. The days of tight perms and crunchy hair sprayed locks are gone. Instead, women can ball their hair up in a natural bun. Men can even wear short Mohawks, or 'faux mos,' to work and even a five-o'clock shadow is considered hot.

In China, Athena Mao says that in Shanghai, girls cut straight bangs and style hair to swoop out at the neck.

She says though, hairstyles in China have changed a lot.

"Before, straight, long hair was very popular. Then, short, bob hair was very popular. And now, like a flower hat on your head, you know? In Chinese, it's 'li hua tou.'"

In Italy, Alessandra Pugliese says it's all about the dye.

"In Italy, women used to change hair color every month. My friends go to the hair stylist to have fashion hair cutting and I think it's a good way to distract yourself."

But all over the world, one hair style somehow keeps reviving itself decade after decade.

Pete Donaldson points out that this hairstyle may finally be dormant, for now.

"You don't see as many 'mullets' as you used to. It was like a classic haircut back in the day. It's difficult to describe. A mullet could involve a perm where it's short in the front and long, draping over the shoulder."

This hairstyle, with its short, spiky top and long hair below has been dubbed for 'business in the front, party in the back.'

Some older trends have been left behind, but others have been recycled.

As it turns out, big sunglasses aren't just big in Italy. Women everywhere love the bug-eyed look.

Claude Gauvin from Quebec, Canada, at first, thought they looked ridiculous.

"Now, I actually wear them myself and I think it looks good. I guess it takes time for people to get used to the look. If you think about it, if you're trying to protect your eyes from the sun, at least if they're bigger, then they protect your eyes better."

Remember when "trucker hats" were only worn by truckers and farmers a few decades ago? Not any more. Now, even models can be seen wearing trucker hats with sparkles and rhinestones.

Let's leave the head area for awhile and move down to the feet. Who would have thought that plastic, bulky Crocs shoes would be so successful?

Alessandra Pugliese says just because they are in fashion doesn't mean she will buy them.

"I don't like Crocs because they are not elegant. They are not comfortable, they are not really shoes. I am Italian, I could never wear Crocs."

But John Zhao from Beijing explains that fashions like those tend to grow on people.

"Well, when Crocs first came out, I thought they were ugly. Now, I'm a bit used to it. I still don't think they look good, but apparently, they're comfortable. I'm thinking of getting a couple pairs for me and for my parents."

But comfort isn't everything. Everyone these days is wearing big, Uggs wooly boots in the winter, but not because they feel good.

Athena Mao from Shanghai says that women are willing to sacrifice a bit of comfort for style.

"I like it but they're not comfortable, the bottom of it is very heavy. Actually, it's not good for your feet. But it looks nice, and with Uggs, you don't get cold, it keeps your feet very warm. And you can wear leggings with Uggs. It's a good choice for the girls who want to be sexy and beautiful in the winter. It's a good choice for them."

With some odd trends, John Zhao points out that sometimes all it takes is for the right person to wear it the first time.

I think after awhile, you start to think, it's OK. It's not that ugly. If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me. I think in that sense, movie stars and celebrities have a lot of influence. But I think, if you want to be more than just a fad, it you want it to last awhile, it still has to be a good design."

So enjoy your clothes and keep those styles that you keep appreciating over the years. It all comes and goes. As Dad would say, hang on to your favorites because if you wait long enough, those fashion trends will make a return. And you'll be ready.
