Now for more than 150 years, Big Ben, or the Great Westminster Clock, to give it its proper name, has kept time outside the Houses of Parliament in London. It must be one of the most iconic clocks in the world. And the man who has to keep it ticking over is Paul Roberson.

The fact I've got into clock-making was kind of by accident. I wanted to be a motorcycle engineer but there were no openings available. So I became a clockmaker. I mean, I started, I was an apprentice watching clockmakers. So I spent the early part of my career manual-working on wrist watches. Anything mechanical, I'm interested in, so motorcycles, musical boxes, jukeboxes, steam engines. You name it. My wife can give you a huge list.

Is there anything special about clocks?

I find clocks particularly fascinating, you know, I mean, they are very robust. And when you, take Big Ben for example. I mean it's over 150 years old, and it's still doing exactly the same job it was put there to do 150 years ago. It's been ticking almost non-stop for 150 years. And there's not many mechanical things that live up to that. So, you know, I do have a fascination and definitely very enjoy keeping them going, yeah.
