上海合作组织准备欢迎新会员
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization or SCO has approved two legal files to admit new memberships at a summit of the bloc's leaders in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
Chinese president Xi jinping said that expanding external exchanges and absorbing new blood is the need of the development of the organization itself.
"After more than ten years of careful research and consultation, legal preparations for the enlargement of the SCO have been basically completed. We welcome any countries which conform to the application requirement to become the formal member of the organization, and inject new vitality to the development of the organization."
It's reported that India, currently holding an observer status with the SCO, has formally applied for full membership of the organization.
Meanwhile, President Xi Jinping has called for joint efforts to fight extremism and internet terrorism among the members of the SCO.
He suggested the SCO members launch consultation on an anti-extremism convention and initiate studies on a mechanism for actions against internet terrorism.
The president also called on the SCO members to grant the group's Regional Counter-Terrorism Structure new function to combat drug trafficking at an early date.
The SCO currently groups China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
