Vladimir Putin wants to meet Donald Trump – and says Austria has already offered to host the summit.

He signalled he wanted better relations with the US, and said he welcomed Trump’s call to allow Russia back into the G7 group of leading industrialised nations.

他表示希望与美国有更好的关系，并称欢迎特朗普的呼吁，允许俄罗斯回到G7主要工业化国家集团。

Russia was expelled after the annexation of Crimea, and other members such as Canada and the UK are still opposed to letting them return.

Putin said: ‘The US president has repeatedly said that it’s reasonable to hold such a meeting. ‘As soon as the US side is ready, the meeting will take place, depending, of course, on my working schedule.’

The Russian president was speaking in Qingdao, China, where he was attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, reported the Guardian.

White House officials have reportedly being working towards holding a summit with Putin under instruction from Trump who has consistently said he wants better relations with Russia despite accusations they meddled in 2016’s election.

At this week’s G7 summit, where he caused consternation by refusing to sign a joint statement, Trump said: ‘I think it would be an asset to have Russia back in.’

Putin responded: ‘It wasn’t us who left. Colleagues refused to come to Russia on well-known grounds. We will be ready to greet them all in Moscow.’
