From the cnn centre in Atlanta. I'm Nicole Lapin. Here's a look at what's happening right NOW IN THE NEWS.

The Democratic-controlled Senate passed a military spending bill today that includes a timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq. The 51-46 vote came mainly along party lines. The bill provides a funding request that President Bush made for operations in both Iraq and in Afghanistan, but it also sets March of next year as the deadline for withdrawing all the U.S. troops from Iraq. The president still says he is gonna veto it.

And relatives of the man known as Chemical Ali have been gunned down in Iraq. Police found the wife, the daughter and the brother of Ali Hassan al-Majid dead in his family's home in Tikrit. He was the one of Saddam Hussein’s most notorious lieutenants and is currently facing genocide charges for allegedly killing thousands of Iraqi Kurds during the 1980s.

Rescue crews have pulled at least two survivors from this rubble of the collapsed building in Istanbul, Turkey. You are taking a close look we’re zooming in for you as one person believed to still be trapped, but no deaths have been reported. Fortunately, many people got out when they heard the roof starting to crack. The floors of the eight-storey apartment building pancaked on top of each other. Construction workers were trying to tear down the building right next door and that’s what authorities believe triggered this collapse.

And the man who's been called the most hated dad in America. Well, he is back in the United States, but he is back in court. Byron Perkins was caught in Mexico yesterday after a year in hiding with his girlfriend. He was let out of jail last January so he could donate a kidney to his 17-year-old son, but then he disappeared right before the surgery while his son eventually got the kidney but from an anonymous donor.

And you can basically call it the opening night of the 2008 presidential campaign. South Carolina State University in Orangeburg now hosts a 90-minute debate among eight Democratic candidates tonight. Each will have 60 seconds to respond to questions from moderator Brian Williams of NBC News.

With that you are now up-to-date. cnn is always your source for the latest headlines whether you’re watching online, watching on TV or watching on your cellphone when you’re on the go. Thanks for watching.
