Today's fighting started around 9:40 in the morning Eastern Standard Time near a refugee camp in the northern Lebanon, rather, the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli. It is linked to a government forces raid early Sunday morning in Tripoli. Today's fighting is believed to be some of the worst since the civil war ended in 1990.
Israel has launched a wave of new strikes against targets in Gaza. Palestinian security sources say four Islamic Jihad militants were killed in the strike at a car. Israel's Security Cabinet decided to escalate military action after dozens of rockets were fired on Israeli towns.
The US Senate is set to do some political battling over immigration today. A bipartisan deal was reached on an immigration bill last week, but Liberals and Conservatives have already lined up to challenge it.
