Hello, I am Melissa Long here at the cnn center in Atlanta with a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
A man Kansas authorities suspected in an 18-year-old woman's death was charged with premeditated first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping this morning. Police say Edwin Hall appears to be the same person seen in surveillance video walking into a Target Store on Saturday soon after Smith. A body believed to be Kelsey Smith was found at a wooded area in Missouri yesterday. The area is about 20 miles from where Smith was abducted.
In Connecticut, three suspects are due in court in the case of a 15-year-old girl found alive almost a year after she disappeared. Police were searching the home about ten miles from where the girl lived. Adam Gault and two other people who lived at the home were arrested. Police say he was a business associate of the girl's family and she might have considered him a friend.
President Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin have wrapped up their one-on-one meeting at the G8 Summit. And Putin left saying he is confident the two sides will overcome their current dispute over a U.S. plan to deploy a missile defense system in Eastern Europe. Putin has threatened to aim Russian missiles at Europe if the shield plan proceeds. President Bush says the shield system is not a threat to Russia.
South Korean Defense Ministry officials say North Korea has test-fired several short-range missiles off its west coast. The test comes almost two weeks after Pyongyang test-fired a short-range missile off its east coast. Short-range missiles have an approximate range of between 90 and 500 miles.
