A judge has ruled that 21-year-old Genarlow Wilson should be released from his 10-year prison sentence. Wilson was convicted of aggravated child molestation 4 years ago when he was 17. At that time, he had consensual oral sex with the 15-year-old girl. He was sentenced under an old law to 10 years in prison. Last year, Georgia lawmakers changed the law to make similar acts punishable by maximum of just one year in prison.
The Democratic-led Senate today plans to debate, then deliver a symbolic vote of no-confidence against Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. The White House is expected to ignore that. President Bush says the vote has no bearing on Gonzales' future as attorney general.
Then tomorrow, Durham County, North Carolina, District Attorney Mike Nifong goes on trial himself on ethnics charges. He is the D.A. who prosecuted three Duke lacrosse team members on sexual assault charges. These charges that later were dropped. Nifong is accused of lying to the court and withholding evidence.
Police in Nairobi, Kenya. They are trying to determine the cause of a fatal explosion. That blast outside a hotel killed 2 people and wounded more than 30. Several were critically wounded there. It came after weeks of violence by a criminal gang called the Mungiki. Police killed more than 30 people last week in a Nairobi slum. That's a gang stronghold.
Fighting resumed between Lebanese forces and Islamic militants holdup/ holed up inside the Nahr el-Bared Palestinian refugee camp. The violence began May 20th, almost a month ago when Lebanese internal security forces began conducting raids in the Lebanese City of Tripoli. The battles are the worst internal violence since the end of Lebanon civil war in 1990.
