Hello, I'm Melissa Long here at the cnn center in Atlanta with a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

President Bush and several senate Republicans are meeting right now on Capitol Hill about immigration. The president has made immigration reform a top priority in the second term and is pushing lawmakers to compromise and pass a bill he will sign. Last weekday, a bipartisan Immigration Bill failed a test full in the senator. The bill had opposition from both Republicans and Democrats.

The Atlantis shuttle crew is busy today unfolding a pair of solar panels for the International Space Station. The panels will power or help to power a pair of lab modules. That will be shuttled up there a little later in the year. The team will eventually get around to patching a tear to a heat resistant blanket on the shuttle.

The Durham, North Carolina district attorney who brought charges against three Duke Lacrosse players is now a defendant. Mike Nifong faces several ethics charges related to the handling of the Duke Rape allegations. (无And) The rape charges against the three young men were eventually dropped. Nifong could be disbarred if convicted.

The Georgia state attorney general is fighting a judge's order to release a man serving 10 years in prison for sexual encounter he had with a 15-year-old girl when he was 17. The judge said Genarlow Wilson should be released but Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker filed an appeal. As a result, Wilson must remain in prison he was convicted of aggravated child molestation. The law has since been changed.
